IT took a while but Morecambe finally moved off the 50-point mark with their first win in five league games.
>>>Watch the slideshow here...The relief was pretty clear for all to see as the Shrimps recorded their first home win since January 12 as they recorded the double over a Brentford side they beat 1-0 at Griffin Park.
The Shrimps certainly rode their luck at times as Brentford had two goals disallowed and hit the woodwork but Morecambe could also have added to their goal tally as they regained their cutting edge up front.
And when Garry Hunter scores with a header you know the day has gone your way.
It was a win that delighted boss Sammy McIlroy.
He said: "We did ride our luck in patches but I think it is about time we had some good fortune. But although we did have some luck if you analyse the game I think we could have scored five or six.
"It wasn't easy because the pitch had had a bit of hammer this week which made it difficult to get it down and play. The boys worked hard and I am so glad that we have got off that 50-point mark."
McIlroy brought in goalkeeper Scott Davies in place of Shwan Jalal while Henry McStay started at centre-half ahead of Dave Artell and both did well with Davies saving a 34th-minute penalty from Glenn Poole and producing two fine late saves.
But the player to grab the headlines was Garry Thompson who provided two assists as well as his sixth League goal of the season with a performance that left Shrimps' fans eager for him to finally sign his new contract.
Brentford started the sharper and they thought they had opened the scoring on 16 minutes when John Mousinho's cross was deflected past Davies only for the goal to be disallowed for offside.
After that reprieve, Morecambe raised their game. On 25 minutes, the back-in-form Michael Twiss forced Simon Brown into a good save and Matty Blinkhorn headed over one of Thompson's excellent crosses.
Morecambe's pressure paid off with an opening goal on 31 minutes when Stewart Drummond scored his second goal in three goals after bravely heading home another Thompson cross past Brown at the near post.
Brentford hit back with Glenn Poole seeing his spot-kick saved after Jim Bentley was penalised for a push before the visitors equalised three minutes before the break when Nathan Elder's volley from the edge of the area flew past the stranded Davies.
Morecambe began the second half well and regained the lead on 52 minutes. Baker was the provider with a superb pass for Thompson to run onto and place past the helpless Brown.
The Bees looked to mount a comeback with former Grays man Poole unfortunate to see a wonderful volley from an acute angle come back off the post after beating Davies.
There was more bad luck for the visitors as striker Alan Connell was unfortunate to see a goal rubbed out for offside after he pounced on a Davies block.
And to make matters worse for Brentford, they were hit on the break with three minutes to go when Thompson again provided the cross which Hunter headed past Brown for his first ever Football League goal.
Brave Brentford fought to the death but both Wayne Brown and Elder were denied late goals by excellent Davies' saves as the Shrimps held on for a welcome win.
