Morecambe picked up a point at Christie Park against Notts County on Saturday.

A cracking strike from Carl Baker - his 10th of the season - levelled the scored in the 72nd minute of a game that will not live long in the memory.

Richard Butcher had put the visitors in front on 28 minutes, pouncing on a piece of bad control by Stewart Drummond to curl the ball expertly beyond Shwan Jalal.

The Shrimps barely got going in the first half with manager Sammy McIlroy choosing to revert to the 4-3-1-2 formation he had use before Christmas.

Garry Thompson and Garry Hunter dropped to the bench with Drummond and Damien Allen joining Craig Stanley in midfield.

At the back, David Artell replaced Simon Grand after his recent injury and suspension absence.

But Baker was the man most likely to produce anything memorable for the Shrimps.

He had the best - and almost only - effort of the first half, forcing Kevin Pilkington into a smart save with a strike from the edge of the box.

And when the ball dropped to him in the 72nd minute, there was never any doubt as he found the far corner with his right foot.

The catalyst for the Shrimps' improved second half performance was Thompson, who came on for Allen as McIlroy returned to 4-4-2.

Thompson provided a series of excellent crosses and Matty Blinkhorn and Michael Twiss both might have scored on another day.

But a win would probably have flattered the Shrimps on a day when they didn't hit the heights.

The main thing was to avoid defeat and make sure two games didn't become three without a point.
