University set for first boxing show

Boxing debuts at the University of Cumbria in Lancaster on Saturday, July 6.

An evening of ‘white collar’ action featuring the young boxers from Frank Harrington’s Coastal Boxing gym in the West End, will include a top-of-the-bill clash between Steven Douglas and Thomas Chadburn for the UKBA light welterweight title.

Chadburn, from Yorkshire (28-7) is a test for the flashy and hard-hitting Douglas, who has 11 wins from 12 contests.

Meanwhile Morecambe fighter Lee Newton takes on Joe Birket from Blackpoolfor the UKBA Middleweight Title.

Dave Standen, Tom Lynch, Adam O’Donnell and Luke Walker will also appear.

The show will be promoted by Frank Harrington, who has previously organised boxing nights at The Carleton and the Winter Gardens.

Harrington, a former professional, boxed an exhibition match against former world super middleweight and middleweight champion ‘The Dark Destroyer’ Nigel Benn at Lancaster and Morecambe College in December 2012.
