Three Morecambe girls competed in the English Table Tennis Association Under 11 to 14 National Championships.
Megan Dillon, under 14, her sister Alice Dillon, under 12, and Naomi Collins, under 11, were all selected to compete for Lancashire in their respective age groups at what is the highest level of competition in England.
Megan progressed through her group stage to play Amy Blagbrough, a girl ranked five places above her in the National Cadet standings. However, she eased through the match 3-1 to take her into the last eight.
There she met Denise Payet, the highest ranked girl in the tournament and Megan couldn’t find a way past the eventual finalist but left with her head held high.
Younger sister Alice excelled, qualifying out of her group before winning her first two knockout matches comfortably to progress to the semi-finals.
She met number one seed Charlotte Bardsley in the last four and looked on course to cause a shock as she raced into a 2-0 lead.
However the top seed fought back to run out an eventual 3-2 winner.
Finally, Naomi exceeded all expectations, progressing out of her group and winning her first knockout match 3-0 to set up a quarter-final match with eventual finalist Nicole Scott.
Naomi went 2-0 down but fought back to 2-2, setting up a final set decider, which she came out on the wrong end of.
