Primary schools from across the district travelled to Salt Ayre to compete in the Lancaster and Heysham Primary Schools Sports Festival.
The event, on Friday June 14, saw 250 pupils take part in a variety of sports.
As well as participation activities such as dodgeball, Gym Stars, and Aquasplash the festival doubled up as a qualifying competition for the 2013 Lancashire Sainsbury’s School Games finals in many sports.
The day was particularly successful for pupils from St Peter’s Primary School in Heysham, who qualified to compete in TriGolf, mini tennis, and orienteering at the games in Blackpool next month.
Other qualifiers for the games included St Bernadette’s, who qualified in orienteering and Lancaster Road and Grosvenor Park, who both qualified to compete in Quadkids Athletics.
They will be joined in Blackpool by Bolton-le-Sands and Bowerham Primary, who both qualified to compete in year five and six girls football earlier in June.
Officials from Our Lady’s Catholic College and Heysham High School helped in the running of the day with pupils from the former performing a dance routine as part of a short opening ceremony.
The day’s events were also supported by Morecambe FC, tennis coach James McNally, Trevor Newsham and Ryan Done from Heysham Golf Club, Keith Singleton who hosted Change4Life fesitval and Lancaster Water Polo Club’s Zak Sly.
