Vale of Lune triumph in Lancaster University 7s tournament

Vale of Lune celebrated the Summer Solstice in style by winning the Lancaster University Sevens Tournament on Saturday.

Despite temperatures that would not have disgraced the Brazil World Cup Vale produced some scintillating passages of rugby in an exciting, all action, crowd pleasing competition that could become an integral component of the local rugby calendar.

The squad of captain Andy Garnett, Oli Carter, Sam Wallbank, Ben Dorrington, Alex Baines, Dan Baines, Adam Macluskie, Scott Foy, James Hodder and Jack Turton only conceded three tries on the day.

Vale’s pre-season training begins in earnest on Saturday, July 12, at 9am at Powder House Lane.

The session is open to all players with those new to the area welcome to attend ahead of what is going to be a demanding season for all Vale’s sides under new head coach Fergus Owens.

The popular Beach Rugby Tag Tournament on Morecambe sands adjacent to the Clock Tower has been rescheduled for Saturday, August 2.
