VALE of Lune ended their season in style with an impressive victory over Broughton Park to win the Brian Leigh Trophy final.
Within four minutes Park’s wily stand-off Kit Brammer took advantage of some sluggish tackling to cross for the easiest of tries, converted by Ronan O’Brien.
A try-saving James Hodder tackle then seemed to spur Vale. A clever Fergus Owens kick was quickly gathered up and Hodder sped over for a try under the posts which Jimmy Moore converted.
However, indisipline led to Vale conceding a penalty and the reliable O’Brien took advantage to put his side three points head.
Within five minutes of the restart Vale hit back and it was league top try scorer Fergus Owens who danced his way over for the try which Moore converted.
Now Vale were looking much better and after Park had been penalised three times for high tackles their defence looked a little more fragile.
Young Matt Rogerson was proving a particular handful and 10 minutes into the second half, he shrugged off several would be tacklers and created the room for Moore to crash his way to the line for a touchdown which he himself converted.
