The Vale of Lune have pulled off a huge coup by securing the services of a former England coach.
Brian Ashton MBE, coach of the national side from December 2006 to April 2008, has arrived at Powderhouse Lane to support new head coach Fergus Owens.
The 67-year-old was most recently with Fylde Rugby Club.
In a short statement on their Facebook page, the club said: “We would like to welcome our new member of the coaching staff team Brian Ashton to the Vale of Lune RUFC.
“Brian, an ex-England coach, will bring valuable experience to our club.”
Ashton has local links and was a pupil at Lancaster Royal Grammar School between 1957 and 1962 before becoming president of the school’s Old Lancastrians Club between 2012 and 2013.
