Local interest was generated when the draw was made and the tie fully lived up to the pre-match speculation with the final outcome hanging in the balance.
The Vale made all the early running and held the whip hand in the opening exchanges as they ran in a brace of tries in the first twenty minutes.
Winger Jack completed a flowing attack that had involved forwards and backs.
Paul McAllister added a second when he outpaced the defenders to chase down a kick ahead for a converted try.
Vale, however, were unable to sustain their early momentum and a sprightly Carnforth side started to gain control to grab the initiative and to establish a lead by half time.
The home side extended their lead early in the second half but the Vale started to increase the tempo.
Leon Gierke, a most accomplished player, intelligently chipped ahead to score a converted try between the posts.
A Vale penalty was followed by further tries from McAllister and Gierke one of which was converted.
Carnforth had an opportunity to clinch victory in the closing minutes but a penalty flew wide of the target.
The two clubs are due to meet again later in the season in league fixtures and on the evidence of their first encounter they will hugely anticipated.
Vale’s victory completed a highly successful cup Saturday for all their sides, their achievements did ensure that their cup did indeed runneth over.
