MORECAMBE produced another stunning away performance to shock Port Vale at Vale Park.

Two goals in both halfs saw Jim Bentley’s side maintain their unbeaten away record against the Football League’s top scorers who last season scored seven against the Shrimps.

Morecambe took the lead on 27 minutes through the experienced Jason Price. After some good work from Laurence Wilson striker Danny Carlton curled a shot in from the left hand side which Stuart Tomlinson parried and Price reacted quickly to slot home the loose ball from six yards out.

Ten minutes later it was 2-0 with Lewis Alessandra scoring a fine individual effort. Defender Nick Fenton ran down the middle and teed up Alessandra who provided a sublime finish to beat Tomlinson.

The Shrimps came close to a third with Tomlinson saving neatly from Will Haining’s audacious 50 yard free kick before the home side threatened themselves as the half came to a close when Sean Rigg forced Barry Roche into a good save with his close range effort.

Port Vale started the second half on the front foot with Marc Richards forcing Barry Roche into a great save from a long range effort and Tom Pope caused problems with three headers all well saved by the Morecambe keeper.

After surviving the early pressure Morecambe hit back with Alessandra twice firing just over before they added two further goals in the final stages of the game.

Laurence Wilson made it 3-0 from the penalty spot after Gary McDonald was brought down in the box and added a fourth in the final minute when Andy Fleming headed home a Will Haining cross from close range.
