Torrisholme fall short with the bat

Torrisholme went down to a 27-run defeat at fellow strugglers Whittingham & Goosnargh in the Palace Shield Premier Division on Saturday.

The hosts were bowled out for 151 batting first, Harun Patel top scoring with 82 before being dismissed by Joe Gibbins.

Patel’s knock ultimately made the difference with no other Whittingham & Goosnargh batsman reaching 20.

Captain Matt Jackson was the pick of the bowlers, taking 4-41 from his 14 overs.

Graham Lee also chipped in with 3-29.

Torrisholme’s reply never got going however, with James Ferguson top scoring with 30 coming in at number seven.

Adam Bee’s 22 was the only other meaningful contribution as Jackson’s men came up short.

Lee finished unbeaten on 14, while Lancaster City midfielder Billy Akrigg made 11 at the top of the order. Jackson also chipped in with 10.

Sheeraz Polli, 3-31, and Sabbir Patel, 3-49, were the pick of the home bowlers.

The result leaves Torrisholme second from bottom 10 games into their return to the top tier of Palace Shield cricket.

They next host Croston at Boundary Meadow this Saturday.
