Two district boxers remained undefeated as professionals in Blackpool on Friday night.
Bentham light heavyweight Tomi Tatham and Westgate Warrior Isaac Lowe both won their second fights on the undercard of Brian Rose’s successful British light middleweight title defence against Sam Webb at the Winter Gardens.
Tatham, known as TNT, beat the far more experienced Elvis Dube via knockout and featherweight Lowe beat Harvey Helmsley comfortably on points.
Tatham, a plasterer by trade, said: “It was a really good punch to get the knockout but it wasn’t my best performance.
“There’s a lot of things to work on but it came together in the third round with the left hook. He’s ranked a lot higher than me so it was a massive leap. My first opponent pulled out and this guy took it at a week’s notice so he was in fighting shape and maybe thought he would have it easy because I’d only had one fight.
“It put a lot of pressure on me but I won the first round, the second was pretty close and in the third I just started to get my flow a bit more and he wanted to go in for a war, which his coach told him not to do, and that was that.”
Eighteen-year-old Lowe, who had Morecambe-based heavyweight sensation Tyson Fury amongst his supporters on the night, said: “It was a good win against a strong kid.
“My first fight was a blowout and Friday night was different, he was a tough kid but I out boxed him.
“It was good to get the rounds in because you learn a bit more in these types of fights. Tyson’s a good friend of mine and it was good of him to come and support me. I just want to say thanks to everyone who was there supporting me.”
