One of the stars of the Carnforth Otters swimming club ended the year by representing her country.
The highlight of Rachel Ritchie’s busy finish to 2012 was representing England at the WISE International swimming meet in Sunderland.
She announced herself as one of the best young swimmers in the UK by finishing second in the 100m breaststroke at what was her first international meet.
Ritchie touched home in 1:11.80 in narrowly missing out on the gold to England teammate Katie Armitage who finished in 1.11.58.
The close race saw both girls swim under the WISE record time of 1.12.32.
This all after the 16-year-old had competed against the cream of British swimming at the British Gas Swimming Championships back in March.
The event served as the trials for the Team GB London 2012 team with stars such as Rebecca Adlington and Liam Tancock in action.
Ritchie reached the semi-finals of the 100m breaststroke and also competed in the heats of the 200m of the same event.
The Ripley St Thomas Sixth Form pupil, from Quernmore, has also helped North Lancashire to success recently as well as aiding Lancashire to National County Championships triumph in Sheffield in October.
