Elsewhere, Lancaster’s Jack Clarkson was part of the Lancashire team that kept alive their hopes of winning the Daily Telegraph Northern Counties League when they shared spoils with Cheshire at Clitheroe.

The Red Rose wilted in the foursomes, losing 4.5-1.5 but rallied in the singles with 2.5 points from the last three ties proving crucial in the final reckoning.

Clarkson teamed up with Royal Lytham’s Henry Tomlinson to halve his foursomes match against Sam Prince, Northenden, and Joshua McMahon, Wallasey.

The Lancaster man then went down 5&4 to McMahon in the singles.

Lancashire face Yorkshire in the final match on September 3.
