Lancaster and Morecambe runners take on London Marathon

Lancaster & Morecambe AC runners took part in the 36th edition of the London Marathon on Sunday along with a record number of more than 39,000 finishers.

Leading the way for the district club was Katherine Cousins who ran a magnificent time of 3h.04.10 for the 26.2 miles with a position of 125th woman, finishing ahead of approximately 90 per cent of the male runners.

In next was experienced marathoner John Carr, running a superb time of 3h.06.33.

Three of the club’s runners achieved a negative split, running the second half faster than the first half, Nikki Kay timing her efforts to perfection to run a fantastic time of 3h.21.32 for her debut marathon.

Zoe Hooton was also in her first marathon and paced it well with a faster second half, earning a superb 4h.08.12 and was accompanied to the line by club-mate and experienced marathoner Steve Perry.

Michael Roy suffered a back problem the week of the race but still ran a personal best of 3h.47.58.

Other club runners also running well were Jon Sear in 3h.25.07, Helena Lewis in 4h.15.36, Greg Lambert in 4h.21.06 and Lisa Preston in 4h.26.20.

The club was also represented at the Blackpool full and half marathon last weekend.

Coming back first for the club in the half marathon distance was Phil Lowery, running strongly to complete the 13.1 miles in 1h.21.18 and finishing 10th overall out of more than 800 runners.

George Parrington ran well in 1h.46.13 and not far behind was Charlie Satterly in 1h.49.42. The other finishers were Karen Cooper in 1h.53.55, Eden Parkinson in 1h.53.57 and Gillian Hamilton in 1h.57.29.

For some runners one marathon just isn’t enough with Billy Gardner and Tony Jewitt decided to warm up for the Blackpool marathon by running 26 miles to Blackpool the day before, Tony finishing in 4h.03.24 and Billy in 5h.03.13.

Despite being offered a lift home the two keen runners completed their marathon trio by running home to Lancaster on Monday.

Elsewhere the club had held its annual Three Bridges 10k the previous weekend with club runner William Onek taking the win in 32m.38.

In next was David Brown with a solid effort of 34m.30 and Paul Mackie followed in 42m.13.

First female for the club was Zoe Hooton running well in 49m.37, backed up by Cath Mossop in 56m.12. Evelyn Elkington took first vet 75 place with a super 1h.12.11.

Other finishers were Gareth Dowthwaite in 45m.06, John Riach in 48m.14, Patrick Corbett in 48m.30, Eden Parkinson in 51m.09 and Richard Stapleton in 1h.21.25.
