Kendal ease to revised target as Morecambe rue wet weather

Josh Dixon’s men were bowled out for 140 batting first before a 90-minute deluge arrived.

The visitors then felt the ground was unplayable but with the cut off point approaching the game resumed with Kendal finishing on 102-1 as they reached their revised target with ease.

There had also been rain earlier in the day but the game was only delayed by five minutes.

Dixon won the toss and elected to open up alongside Laurence Read as the former Settle man returned from injury.

His comeback didn’t last long however as still adjusting to the Northern League he was to depart without scoring as Kendal professional Syed Ali found the edge of his bat early on.

Dixon looked to rotate the strike alongside professional Saeed Anwar Jnr however after a couple of lusty blows the paid man was to fall for just 10 going back to a full ball which struck him plumb in front.

Ryan Pearson came and went for just 4 and in the blink of an eye Ali had three wickets and Morecambe were in trouble.

Dixon looked to hit home captain Chris Miller over the top with limited success as the Kendal skipper looked to squeeze his counterpart and stop the free-flowing stroke play of Lewis Edge.

With little pace in the pitch this was the perfect ploy but the Morecambe score moved from 20-3 up past the 50 mark.

Dixon was to depart for 16 soon after however, sweeping Miller hard into the legside only for the ball the take the top edge of his bat with deep backward square leg Matthew Clarke gleefully accepting the catch right on the boundary rope.

With the skipper gone Lewis Smith stepped up with the talented youngster making a fluent 31 which included two fours and a six as he ran well with Edge.

Steven Fisher another Morecambe youngster chipped in as the lower order scored some crucial runs to steer Morecambe to a score of 140.

The rain had threatened to come throughout the day and arrived at tea with the visiting skipper believing that was going to bring an end to proceedings.

The captains went back and forth with the decision taken to play on despite Morecambe feeling there was some standing water on the outfield.

The visiting bowlers were left to battle with a wet ball as Kendal cruised home. 
Ali added a half century to his three wickets, finishing unbeaten on 50, while Adnan Ghaus made 31 before being the only wicket to fall to Saeed Anwar Jnr.
