Fine Derham innings sees Morecambe's seconds over the line

A fine innings from Matthew Derham helped Morecambe's 2nd XI to a seven-wicket win over Fleetwood at Woodhill Lane on Saturday.

The youngster scored an unbeaten 85 at the top of the order as the hosts chased down 176 for victory.

Earlier in the day Uzair Shah, 3-47, and captain Andy Bird, 3-27, were the pick of the bowlers as Fleetwood made 175-8 batting first.

Muhammed Patel, 2-59, was also amongst the wickets as Jack Wilkinson top scored with 37 not out.

Luke Wilkinson also made 36 and Paul Willis 33.

Derham was then the backbone of Morecambe’s innings, carrying his bat to see his side home, his 85 coming from 118 balls.

Support came from Sean Graves, who finished unbeaten on a better than a run a ball 36, with the pair adding 78 together to make sure of victory.

Derham had also earlier added 50 with Michael Fisher, 24, as the hosts finished on 176-3 two balls into the 41st over.

Will Reader, Wilkinson and Jonathan Amor were the wicket takers for Fleetwood.

Morecambe’s 2nd XI next travel to Preston on Saturday.
