Chisnall beats Taylor in Players Championship final

Dave Chisnall produced a superb performance to defeat Phil Taylor 6-3 and win Saturday’s Players Championship final at the Barnsley Metrodome.

The Morecambe darts ace, who knocked Taylor out of the Ladbrokes World Championship last Christmas, defeated the world number one for the second time in a Pro Tour decider this year with the triumph in Barnsley.

Chisnall followed up his March victory over Taylor in Reading with a brilliant display, averaging 111.80 in the final and taking out a 161, with The Power hitting a 105 average in reply but unable to fight back from 5-1 down.

And after reaching the last 16 of Sunday’s second event of the Barnsley double header before being knocked out 6-2 by John Part, Chisnall confirmed his place at the top of the Pro Tour Order of Merit, meaning he will be the number on seed for next weekend’s Cash Converters Players Championship Finals.

“It’s nice to beat Phil,” said Chisnall. “I’ve had a couple of good wins over him but he beat me 6-0 in the Championship League semi-finals the last time we played, so it’s nice to get revenge!”
