Lancaster City boss relishing getting stuck in to pre-season

Lancaster City boss Phil Brown is looking forward to getting stuck into his first full season as Dolly Blues boss.

His players return for pre-season training at Myerscough College this Saturday as the buildup begins to the new Evo-Stik First Division North season.

Having arrived in October Brown can’t wait to get his ideas across from day one as City look to improve on a season that saw them come up just short of the play-offs.

The Blues boss said: “You can start afresh and get your ideas across from day one.

“Pre-season is always a bit bitty in non-league with 100 per cent commitment and things like that but I’m looking forward to getting into the players.

“It’s important to get that framework and structure in place.

“It’ll be good to get my ideas across but also to tap into their thoughts.

“We need the players, old and new, to buy into what we’re trying to do but I’ll be all ears over the next few weeks as well.”

New signings are yet to be confirmed, with striker Tom Kilifin and retiring captain Neil Marshall the only confirmed departures, but Brown insists plenty of work is going on behind the scenes with fresh faces expected at the opening session this weekend.

The Dolly Blues will be training every Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday at the college and Lancaster University before the opening pre-season friendly against Stockport County at Myerscough on July 12.

Brown said: “I’m looking forward to it.

“Things haven’t been quiet since the end of the season.

“We’ve been ticking over and talking to people all the time.

“The first day back and getting pre-season underway is always something you look forward to and the six weeks before the start of the season always go quickly.

“We hope it’s going to be challenging and enjoyable for the players.”
