Morecambe boss Jim Bentley is confident of landing his number one January transfer window target ahead of the trip to Accrington Stanley on Saturday.
The Shrimps boss is closing in on a deal for a right back, a position that has posed Bentley something of a problem this season with both Andy Parrish and Andy Wright filling in when required.
Bentley said: “We’ve had a couple of targets and have a little bit of money to play around with.
“We’ve done a bit of business already with Devitt coming in and Mwasile going out for a month, but we’re hoping to try and get someone in today or tomorrow in time for the Accrington game at the weekend.
“He was probably our main target over the last couple of weeks. We’ve enquired about him on loan but hopefully we can get him until the end of the season.
“He’s a right back that’ll be a good signing for us.
“He knows the league and is at a good age.
“I think it’ll be a good signing for us if we can get it over the line.”
The deal would appear to solve the problem of having no natural right back in the Shrimps squad - something which Bentley has been working to remedy.
Bentley said: “We’ve been a bit light defensively, certainly at right full back.
“We’ve had Andy Parrish in there, Andy Wright and young Aaron McGowan who’s come through the youth team very well.
“But it’s a little bit too much too ask a youngster to go in and be your regular right back when he’s not played much football, even at reserve team level.”
