Jim Bentley was delighted with his side’s defensive display as they set up a second round FA Cup date at Coventry City with a win over Rochdale on Tuesday night.

Gary McDonald’s strike gave Bentley’s side a 1-0 victory in their first round replay meaning they travel to the League 1 side on December 1.

“We dug in when we had to and got the all important goal away from home,” said Bentley.

“We had our backs to the wall but we’ve got a clean sheet and Baz (Roche) has only had to make one save in the first half, which was an outstanding save.

“The threw everything at us, put lots of high balls into the box but we’ve put our bodies on the line when we had to.

“I’m just a little bit disappointed with one or two bits of our play in the second half but it’s a cup game and sometimes you do drop a little bit deep but I’ve got good defenders and right from the front today I think they worked their socks off.

“It’s a fantastic result for all concerned and it’s nice to beat them twice in a matter of a couple of weeks.

“I’m absolutely made up to be in the next round, especially for the travelling fans.”
