All the goals were scored in a six minute period of the first half, Morecambe netting two, with Barnet nicking one in between.

After a scrappy start Morecambe had their first sniff of a chance after 21 minutes when Michael Twiss chased a punt upfield from Barry Roche but Ismail Yakubu just managed to head it to his keeper.

And they went even closer after 24 minutes when a four-pass move led to Gary Hunter threading a superb pass into the box for Neil Wainwright, who forced Jake Cole into a brave save at his feet.

Following a horribly dull first half hour, the game sparked to life.

Though they'd started to play some neat football it was a set-piece that gave Morecambe the lead, Dave Artell rising to head home a Twiss corner after 32 minutes.

Barnet were back in it just a minute later, though, when John O'Flynn got in behind a sleeping defence to turn Albert Adomah's cross past Roche at the near post for the equaliser.

And Morecambe got their noses in front again on 38 minutes, Wayne Curtis twisting and turning before scuffing a shot along the ground which bobbled into the net past Cole's weak attempt to save low to his right.

The home side piled on the pressure after the break and it took a goal-line clearance by Cole to prevent Twiss adding a third after he pounced on Curtis's flick from a 58th minute corner.

Morecambe were forcing some desperate Barnet defending but were reminded of the frailty of a one-goal lead when Neal Bishop whistled a shot inches over the bar from 25 yards.

And there was another scare when Yakubu headed just over from Joe Devera's cross.

Yannick Bolasie should really have equalised when clear in the box but he miscued horribly and the chance went begging.

Bishop tested Roche with another 25-yarder but the Morecambe keeper got down to save.

And, apart from a vain late shout for a penalty when the ball was hit against Jim Bentley's arm, that was the last scare for The Shrimps.
