STRONGMAN Graham Hicks set a world record as he got his 2012 season off to a perfect start.

The Morecambe muscleman dominated the Under 105kg Champion of Champions event in Swindon on March 4, lifting a world record for his weight category of 172.5kg in the maximum log lift in the process.

The event was invitation only and featured the best strongmen under 105kg from Great Britain and Finland, based on performances during the 2011 season.

Following on from his record-breaking log lift Hicks took first place in the second event, the 380kg yoke for 20m, before finishing third in the skip deadlift.

Britain’s Strongest Man under 105kg was back to winning ways taking the final three events, the metal block press, the farmers’ carry and the atlas stones, which he elected to do even though he had won the competition with an event to spare.
