Lancaster started brightly and carved out a number of chances in the first 10 minutes, but two superb goal line clearances denied them the opening goal.

It seemed like it was to be a frustrating afternoon for the visitors, who started to become sloppy in possession and needed to keep their composure, but the deadlock was finally broken just before half-time.

Player of the match, Jen Evans-Hill, burst down the right and fired the ball across the D, where Becca Airey hammered it home at the back post.

In the second half Lancaster seemed slightly off the pace and South Lakes made them pay – they won a penalty corner which they neatly dispatched to bring them level.

This seemed to be the catalyst that fired Lancaster into motion, and the half-backs of Toni Fagan, Anya Briggs and Angie Evans-Hill began surging forward, which South Lakes struggled with.

With not long to go, Lancaster found the winning goal – Ali Standeven drove down the right and got past the last defender before squaring it to Julie Walker, who swept it home first time.

Midfielders Jess Burrows and Jo Higgs set the hosts on their way, they managed to get the ball into the D for Chloe Hilton to sneak it under the goalkeeper for the first goal.

Pendle came back fighting after this and equalised just before half-time, and early in the second half they took the lead. Lancaster responded well though, Hilton driving into the D before firing in an excellent shot to make it 2-2.

Lancaster’s goalkeeper, Abi Symons, made some top class saves throughout with high shots, rebounds and hard hits not getting past her.

Pendle Forest were persistent though and won a short corner which managed to slip into the goal.

Both teams were still fighting to seal the three points, with Lancaster’s Eve Dodd and Alex Bush pushing forward with help from Beth Andrews.

The Lancaster side were then awarded a penalty corner, and from a beautiful set piece, Eve Dodd saw her shot hit the back of the net to give her side the lead.

Pendle put the pressure on quickly tough and within minutes drew level again.
