Morecambe continued their drive towards the Northern League Second Division Title, taking advantage of second placed Barrow unexpected defeat at Netherfield with an easy victory over Fleetwood.
Choosing to bat first the depleted visiting team soon lost an early wicket to Cupit, bringing Clarke and Singleton together; they provided Fleetwood’s best chance of setting a challenging total.
Gates bowled a miserly 12 over spell for just 15 runs, more importantly he removed Singleton for a patient 15.
This together with the introduction Sharma opened the flood gates for Morecambe.
Sharma struck twice in an over and Fleetwood were in trouble.
Skipper Wayne Clarke showed great resistance as he scored 31 before becoming one A Yush Sharma’s six wickets.
Pedder and Cupit both took a wicket apiece as Fleetwood were dismissed for just 83. Sharma’s 6-19 his first five wicket haul for the club.
In reply Morecambe never looked in trouble both Maje and Sharma batted sensibly to ensure that victory was achieved.
Maje hit 29 whilst Sharma took Morecambe within three runs of victory before being dismissed for 30.
Matthew Derham 15 no ensured victory was achieved.
Next week Morecambe travel to Kendal whilst Barrow host Blackpool.
Barrow are now 13 pts. behind Morecambe meaning that the 2nds only need 3pts to guarantee the league title.
