HEYSHAM’S amateur golfing star Jack Senior has made a promising start to his first year as a professional.

The former Ripley St Thomas pupil finished a combined fourth place after a pair of Alps Tour events in Morocco in the last fortnight.

Senior finished third in The Open Palmeraie, between February 8 and 10, carding a final round 71 to finish nine under par, seven shots behind American winner Tim O’Neal.

The following week, the Walker Cup winner went into the final round as a joint leader of the Samanah Open with Italy’s Alessandro Grammatica on four under par, but fell away badly in the final round.

The former Lytham Trophy winner shot a final round of 80 to finish four over par, nine shots behind winner Matteo Delpodio from Italy.

The two events are combined into the Winter Series, because the prize money is less than 40,000 euros, the minimum to count on the order of merit. Fourth place puts Senior second on the Alps Tour order of merit.

His next event will be the Challenge Tour’s Barclays Kenya Open on March 29.
