Eight boats took to Morecambe Bay in good sailing conditions when Morecambe Sailing Club held its first race meeting since it changed its name from Morecambe and Heysham Yacht Club.

The first race of the day was a 70-minute pursuit race and was led from the start by Dave Metcalfe who held on to win in his Streaker, Keith Byers in the OK was second and Tony Rackham a third in his Laser.

Good performances in the second race from all sailors led to a tighter field but once again Metcalfe finished a comfortable winner only this time second went to Dave Edwards and Dyane Sylvester in the Vago with Byers third in the OK.

With the ebbing tide well on the move, the third race presented sailors with a challenge rounding the windward mark in light conditions.

A tightly grouped field jostled around a shortened course, however the honours went yet again to Metcalfe. Byers was second with Edwards and Sylvester taking third.

Morecambe Sailing Club is offering free sailing taster sessions as part of Morecambe Bay Water Fest on the weekend of 28 and 29 June 2014.
