A district racing team is celebrating after a very successful Mini adventure.

Hest Bank-based Coastal Racing came out on top in the prestigious Mini Challenge championship after a hard season of racing.

Driver Shane Stoney lifted the trophy at Donington Park on September 29 after a calendar that has taken the team out to Holland and around some of the country’s most famous circuits.

Victory was all the sweeter for owner Carl Bradley after the former Heysham High School pupil had come so close as a racer himself.

The 29-year-old, who used to race karts against Formula 1 stars Lewis Hamilton and Paul Di Resta as a youngster, said: “Shane won 13 of the 17 races and after winning the first at Donington Park in the final round we’d done it with two to spare which is unheard of in karting.

“It almost always goes right down to the final race and after Shane had won my other car won the last two.

“We knew we had a good set up but we didn’t think we’d win by this much.

“I went so close myself. When I raced Minis I came second and when I was in the Clio Cup I was second and third.

“To do it as an owner now is brilliant.”

It is a first championship for the team who will be back testing in March with championship winner, Shane, from Harrogate, signed up for another season.

Carl said: “Shane will be back. He wants to defend his title.”
