A Morecambe racer escaped serious injury despite wrecking his car in a dramatic crash.

Andy Larton was in action at the Barbon Hillclimb near Kirkby Lonsdale when he carried too much speed into a corner on his third and final run and rolled his Peugeot 106 four times.

The car is a wreck but Larton walked away with his two earlier runs, the first a new class record of 28.15, quick enough for the class win and third overall in the national B event.

He said: ““On the third and final run I was on a mission, carried a little bit to much speed through the second corner and ran slightly wide onto the grass and rolled four times.

“The car has been destroyed so we are battling now to re-shell what we can and try to get back out before the season ends in early October.”
