A promising Lancaster netball player is heading out to Australia to represent her country.

Faye Bateson, 17, will represent the England Nets women’s under 18s in the Indoor World Cup in Brisbane where they will take on hosts Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

Having started out playing for Dallam School Faye has represented Cumbria and the North East Regional Performance Academy before coming through trials to make the 11-strong squad.

Since Easter she has been travelling to Bristol or London once a fortnight for training ahead of the trip Down Under.

Indoor netball, known as Nets, is a fast and furious form of netball that while played under the same rules as the usual form of the sport, takes place in a netted court.

Faye flies out on Monday, September 28 for two tournaments, six and seven-a-side, with the tournaments taking place from October 4 to 10.

England will also be represented in Brisbane by a mixed under 18s side and both women’s and mixed under 30s sides.
