Lancaster and Morecambe Men’s first team moved into the semi-finals of the Lancashire Hockey Association Cup with a dramatic penalty strokes victory over Didsbury Northern.
The teams were locked at 3-3 after the end of normal time at the University of Cumbria before the district side held their nerve to win 6-5 in the shootout.
The home side found themselves behind when Didsbury skilfully finished a breakaway move.
The district side equalised almost immediately with a brilliant individual goal from Alex Davidson.
Lancaster goalkeeper Mark Hutchinson was left with no chance as Didsbury went back in front but the hosts equalised before the break through Phil Molyneux.
Things settled somewhat in the second half but the visitors went ahead again from a well-worked set piece, but Mike Sambell levelled the game up to take it to penalty strokes, two saves from an injured Hutchinson sealing a memorable win for the home side.
