ALTHOUGH this fixture was top versus bottom the Atoms knew that this was potentially a tricky fixture having had almost a month off.
A slick 15 minute period just before half-time saw the Atoms take a 16 point lead and therefore enabling them to control the rest of the game.
Rob Shaw made a telling drive when the Atoms were in possession and Hall went under the sticks, showing how lethal he is close to the line with Billy Livingstone converting.
The Atoms’ half backs Neil Walker and Billy Livingstone switched play almost immediately from the restart finding the destructive Daniel Ginnochio blasting down the blind side.
He showed great determination to force his way in close to the corner and Livingstone again converted for a 12-0 lead.
This purple patch for the Atoms continued and Randal Raines made a neat pass to young loose forward Daniel Helme, who made a break down the right centre channel.
He took play deep into Higginshaw territory before bringing his winger Gavin Winder back inside on a good angled run. The winger found a big hole and rounded off the move superbly.
It was fitting that Higginshaw scored their only points of the game on the back of their stand-off’s accurate kicking as their hard working second row jumped the highest, claiming possession and scoring Higginshaw’s try.
Stand-off Neil Walker attempted a field goal which would have taken the Atoms to three scores in front, but his attempt sailed past the left hand upright.
Dave McVernon was unlucky not to increase the Atoms’ lead as a Hall off-load just didn’t stick in his grasp. The pressure was maintained and Billy Livingstone spotted a gap, shooting over for his seventh try of the season.
Higginshaw just wouldn’t throw the towel in and they were unlucky not to score, but an outstanding Al Crookall try saving tackle out on the right wing denied them.
