Simon Fletcher, Head PGA Professional at Morecambe Golf Club is celebrating winning the Pro Shop of the Year award at the prestigious TGI Golf Partnership annual awards.

These were staged at the Marriott Worsley Park, Manchester and in attendance were PGA Professionals from across the UK and Ireland as well as leading figures from the golf industry.

Simon, who opened his shop at Morecambe Golf Club in 1996, saw off the challenge of more than 450 other PGA Professionals to scoop the award, which was decided by a panel of experts from the TGI Golf Partnership - Europe’s leading golf retail services group.

He said: “I wanted to make the Pro Shop more of a 365 days a year operation, not solely dependent on what was happening on the golf course.

“With the weather being so unpredictable, and wet over recent years, the course has been closed a bit.

“I wanted people to come in off the street and buy products from me, so I looked at brands that were multi wear rather than exclusively golf.

“It took a lot of time and effort, putting together business plans and proposals but I managed to get on board with brands such as Hugo Boss, Ralph Lauren and J.Lindeberg.”

Eddie Reid, TGI Golf Managing Director, said: “Simon took an extremely bold decision last year to move away from the traditional route of a golf club shop and is now reaping the rewards.”
