Some of the best bowlers the country has to offer will take part in a major bowls competition in Lancaster this weekend.

The seventh Invitation 32 at Lune Road Cricket and Bowls Club takes place on Saturday, August 17.

The event offers one of the largest prize funds in the country with a £3,000 total kitty.

Most of the top-ten ranked bowlers will be tackling the tricky Lune Road green including Gary Ellis, Graeme Wilson, Callum Wraight, Wayne Ditchfield and Chris Brown.

They will be joined by some of the legends of the game such as Tommy Johnstone, Glynn Cookson, Mike Leach, Chris MacDonald and Roy Nicholson.

Top-ranked Kendal pair Ian Nicholson and Martin Gilpin also take their place as do three local bowlers in David Liley, Brian Lynch and Peter Eccles.

David plays for the third year running after his strong showing in the competition.

Peter qualifies through his claiming of the Visitor Cup a few weeks ago and Brian by winning the Thwaites Trophy in June.

Parking and refreshments are available with a secure children’s play area and face painter on site to keep children entertained.
