Dave Chisnall begins his William Hill World Darts Championship campaign this weekend.

Morecambe’s number eight seed will face Dutch debutant Ryan De Vreede in the opening round on Sunday, December 21, live on Sky Sports.

The £1.25 million tournament at London’s Alexandra Palace runs from this Thursday, December 18 until January 4.

The sport’s biggest tournament will be held across 20 sessions in the 14 days of play as players from 21 countries do battle for the Sid Waddell Trophy.

The six days of play from December 18 to 23 ahead of the Christmas break will feature the preliminary and first rounds, with the second round and third round held from December 27 to 30 before the tournament returns on New Year’s Day for the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final.

Chisnall is hoping to build on a fine year that saw him take part in his debut Premier League season and the reach the final of the Grand Slam of Darts in November before defeat to Phil Taylor is his second major PDC final.

At last year’s world championships he suffered a shock first round exit to Scot John Henderson.

The Morecambe ace has however produced upsets of his own in the event including a 2012 victory over Taylor.

Chisnall against De Vreede is scheduled to be on third during Sunday’s evening session at around 9pm.
