Dave Chisnall crashed out of the Cash Converters Players Championship Finals at the first round stage on Friday night.

The Morecambe ace lost 6-4 to Dutchman Jelle Klaasen at the Butlins Minehead Resort.

Entering the tournament as the number two seed after an impressive year that included three ProTour victories, Chisnall won the opening leg as he finished 65 on tops.

Klaasen however took the next two legs to lead 2-1 before Chisnall levelled the match up with a 10-dart leg.

A break of throw then moved the Dutchman 3-2 in front before Chisnall missed tops as Klaasen extended his lead to two legs.

But the world number seven hit back, Chisnall hitting 180s in the next two legs to bring the game back to 4-4.

Klaasen however took the next two holding his nerve in the 10th leg after initially missing double 18 for the win to seal a 6-4 victory.

Michael Van Gerwen was the eventual winner over the event, producing an amazing comeback from 6-3 down for an 11-7 triumph over Phil Taylor in Sunday’s final.

Chisnall has been drawn to face John Henderson in the first round of the Ladbrokes World Championship later this month.

The £1 million event at the Alexandra Palace in London starts on December 13 and is live on Sky Sports,
