Dave Chisnall makes his Premier League Darts debut this Thursday night.
Morecambe’s world number five takes on Robert Thornton at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on February 6 in the opening match this year’s competition live on Sky Sports.
Chisnall was selected as part of the 10-man field for the lucrative event after an impressive 2013.
He however started the new year with a disappointing fashion as he was dumped out of the German Darts Championship in the second round by Raymond van Barneveld.
The five-time world champion was a 6-2 winner in Hildesheim on Saturday afternoon.
The Dutch ace had needed to qualify just to win his place in the event, and saw off Ron Meulenkamp in the first round, before repeating the success with a strong display against Chisnall.
After hitting a 180 as he broke in the opening leg, he doubled his lead on tops before Chisnall got off the mark with a 13-dart leg.
Legs of 14, 13 and 14 darts, featuring a further two 180s, moved van Barneveld 5-2 up, and though Chisnall took out 72 to reply, the Dutchman took out 100 on tops to seal victory.
Gary Anderson claimed his first ranking victory for over two years with a thrilling 6-5 defeat of Justin Pipe in Sunday night’s final.
The first night of the Premier League Darts is live from Liverpool on Sky Sports 1 from 7pm on Thursday.
The opening night on Merseyside will also feature a rematch of last year’s final between Michael van Gerwen and Phil Taylor.
