This Saturday sees the first of two speed hillclimbs take place at Barbon Manor, near Kirkby Lonsdale.

A full entry of 100 cars will use the short but testing 627m long course to attempt to record the fastest time of the day.

Last year’s winner Jim Macdiarmid from Kendal will be returning to defend the title in his OMS race car but there will be plenty of competition, not least from Morecambe’s Andy Larton who last year exited the event in a ball of dust after rolling his Peugeot 106 on the final run.

As this is the National B event the entry is a round of no less than 14 different championships which means as well as road cars there will be classes for Westfields, Austin 7s, specialist machinery in the form of Pilbeams and OMS as well as Minis, Anglias and Formula Fords.

Practice starts at 9.30am with the timed runs and competition starting from 1pm.

Entry is £5
