Lancaster and Morecambe Athletics Club runners got stuck in at the new Muddy Shoes five and 11-mile races in Calder Vale taking victories in both events.

The shorter race was a close affair with three people crossing the line together, Lancaster’s Steve Perry, his granddaughter Shannon and Steve Burgess from Thornton Cleveleys Running Club.

All were given the same time of one hour, one minute and 20 seconds with Steve taking the victory from Shannon in second.

The 11 mile-race was no less competitive with Lancaster’s Tony Jewitt taking a well-deserved victory on the tough course in 1h.28.30.

Team mate Sean Davis gave Tony a race to the line with a strong effort of 1h.28.31.

In next was Melissa McGuire with a fantastic run of 1h.31 placing her first female and fifth overall.

Other finishers were Andrew Haley in 1h.32.50, Michael Leck in 1h.38.26, David Wilkinson in 2h.16.53, Paul Carter in 2h.17.08, Carole Wilkinson in 2h.17.12 and Billy Gardner in 2h.49.55.
