Athletics: Holgate takes fifth in Pilling as Onek wins latest 5k race

Lancaster and Morecambe Athletics Club runners have been out racing around Lancashire over distances ranging from 5km to 20 miles.

At the Pilling Elletson Arms 10km Mark Holgate was first Lancaster runner to finish in 37m.54 for fifth place overall and first veteran 40.

Next was Phil Fawcett in 45m.34 for 22nd while Louise Goddard took first veteran 45 position in 46m.15.

Liz Hickingbotham also ran 50m.31 and Helena Lewis finished in 51m.30.

In the latest running of the Lancaster Saturday night 5k race series William Onek and Daryl Hayton pushed each other all the way to the line with Onek taking the win in 15m.54 as Hayton also went under 16 minutes in 15m.57.

Next in was David Brown in 16m.57, followed by Lee Parrington in 16m.59.

Maria Swell was first female for the club taking second female prize overall in 19m.26 with Jayne Perry finishing in 20m.08 and Emily Stapleton in 23m.07 for first veteran 40 place.

The other finishers were Mark Holgate in 17m.50 for first veteran 40, Jack Husband 18m.16, James Edwards 18m.20, Calvin Routledge 18m.38, David Wilkinson 20m.20, Ronald Hummelink 20m.37, Philip Fawcett 20m.46, David Winkfield 24m.00, Linda Stapleton 28m.19 for first veteran 65 and Richard Stapleton 29m.49.

Phil Lowery continued his good form at the Blackpool Hilton half marathon, with 1h.20.30 placing him fourth overall and first veteran 50. Chris Richmond also ran well, finishing in 1h.39.47.

There was also one Lancaster representative at the Golden Ball 20 mile race.

Billy Gardner, also the race organiser, ran a very respectable 2h.56.32, finishing 24th overall and first veteran 55 after a busy morning getting the course ready.
