Michael Schumacher versus John McGuinness would be a fantasy race match-up for many motorsport fans.

But a showdown on the track between the legendary Formula 1 driver and Morecambe’s own TT icon could never actually happen, could it?

Amazingly, it really did when ‘The Morecambe Missile’ met the seven-times world champion on a bike testing day in France.

The event was organised by John’s sponsors Monster energy drinks at the Circuit Paul Ricard near Marseille.

“It was a good day,” said McGuinness. “Schumacher has done some bike racing before at a decent level. He’s the godfather on four wheels and on two wheels he’s not bad either...in fact I couldn’t catch him!”

Adding to the surreal nature of the day, rocker Keith Flint was also zooming around the track.

When he’s not recording hits like ‘Firestarter’ as front man with The Prodigy, Flint doubles as an endurance motorbike racer.
