Youngsters Dan Parkinson and James Short have been released by Morecambe.

The pair are to leave the Globe Arena with their contracts expiring this summer.

Shrimps boss Jim Bentley thanked wide man Parkinson and left back Short for their efforts with the club.

He said: “They are both promising young players who have done well on loan spells at clubs this season.

“It is always difficult releasing young players like them but I am sure they will have a future at other clubs and I hope they do really well because they have been great lads to work with.”

The duo follow senior players Nick Fenton and Will Haining out of the club in recent weeks.

Parkinson, who made 10 substitute appearances across two seasons for the Shrimps in league and cup, has spent time on loan at Vauxhall Motors and Colwyn Bay in the Conference North.

Short, a first-year professional, has made temporary moves to near neighbours Lancaster City and Kendal Town this season.

The teenager featured heavily for the reserves but didn’t make a first-team appearance for the Shrimps.
