WITTON Albion proved to be a test almost too easy for the Dolly Blues thanks to goals from Alex Meaney, Ryan Elderton, Billy McKenna and Danny Hattersley keeping City sitting high at the top of the Evo Stik 1st Division North.

The outcome of the game might not have been so resounding had Martin Fearon not been on top form with two fantastic reaction saves to stop efforts from Witton’s Dean Ennion and Liam Newman in the early minutes to allow Lancaster time to settle and get into their high tempo rhythm.

The visitors responded to the early pressure in perfect fashion after Zach Clark was fouled outside the right side of the box after a typical tricky run and Alex Meaney stepped up and curled a magnificent strike into the top left corner to give City the early lead on the eight minute mark.

Lancaster took just fifteen minutes to double their advantage in almost identical circumstances.

Clark was fouled on the right hand side of the area and Meaney’s curling effort found the head of Jack Duggan, who saw his effort parried by Witton keeper Cooper and hammered home by Ryan Elderton for the full back’s second goal in as many games to give City a comfortable lead.

After Lancaster cruised into half time with the lead, the Witton team reappeared five minutes early for the second half looking to make a statement of intent that never came.

City’s defence stood strong the entire half, soaking up all the pressure whilst looking ever more dangerous on the counter attack.

Fearon was forced into only one testing save as Witton desperately tried in vain to get a foothold whilst at the other end Lee Dodgson had one effort headed off the line in City’s best chance before the Dolly Blues finally grabbed a deserved third.

A counter attack freed substitute Billy McKenna who broke the offside trap and chipped the ball over the onrushing keeper from 18 yards to put the result beyond doubt which became comprehensive after Hattersley broke away just a minute later to coolly slot home from 12 yards to round off another fantastic display of football from the Dolly Blues.
