Laurence Wilson is set to return for Morecambe against Exeter as Joe Widdowson’s spell at the Globe Arena comes to end.
The on-loan Bury man has provided cover for Wilson who has missed two months with an ankle ligament injury.
Widdowson looks set to have played his last game for the Shrimps after picking up an ankle injury of his own in the draw against York on Tuesday with Wilson pencilled in to return ahead of schedule on Sunday. Shrimps boss Jim Bentley said: “Joe’s done great for us.
“I’d like to keep him but Laurence Wilson is coming back now and he’s our regular number three.
“He’s done fantastically well for us though and can be proud of his efforts. He’s fitted in with the group well.
“It looks like he’s not going to be fit for the weekend because he picked up an ankle ligament injury right at the tail end of the game on Tuesday.
“But thankfully Laurence Wilson has been back in the swing for the last seven days or so and he’s training really well.
“He’s fit, he’s strong, he’s ready to go and eager to get back into it.
“We were looking more to get him involved in a reserve team game or a friendly at the start of next week ready for the Accrington game but he’s going to be thrown in five days earlier than expected.
“I’m sure he’ll stand up to it and it’s good to have him back.”
