Morecambe visit fifth in League 2 Oxford United on Saturday hoping to get back to winning ways.

Manager

Michael Appleton

After difficult spells at Portsmouth, Blackpool and Blackburn the former Preston North End midfielder is rebuilding at the Kassam Stadium. Last season Appleton guided The Us to 13th in League 2 but will have eyes on the play-offs this time around.

Key Man

Kemar Roofe

Six goals in 16 appearances, including four in his final three games last season, convinced Appleton to make Roofe’s loan move from West Brom a permanent one in the summer. The 22-year-old, who has also had loan spells at Northampton, Cheltenham and Colchester, has carried on his fine form this campaign and has five goals to his name.

Form

Appleton’s men have lost just once in eight League 2 games this season, a 1-0 defeat at Northampton on September 12. Drew 1-1 at home to Portsmouth last time out meaning they sit on the same number of points as Morecambe, 13, but two places above Jim Bentley’s men in fifth on goal difference.

History

Oxford have had the better of 13 meetings between the sides with five wins to Morecambe’s two and six draws. Last season’s game between the two side’s at the Kassam Stadium ended 1-1 in March with George Baldock’s fine strike late on cancelling out Kevin Ellison’s early goal, his 50th for The Shrimps.

Possible line-up

Slocombe, Baldock, Mullins, Wright, Skarz, Lundstram, Sercombe, Rose, O’Dowda, Hylton, Roofe.
