PAOLO di Canio’s Swindon took the points with a convincing victory over Jim Bentley’s struggling Morecambe.
The former West Ham hero’s side continued their excellent run of form as they proved too strong for the Shrimps.
Morecambe went a goal down on 26 minutes when on loan Birmingham striker Jake Jervis nipped in between two Shrimps’ defenders to head past Barry Roche from eight yards out.
Jim Bentley’s side hit back and Danny Carlton was denied an equaliser by a superb save from Wes Foderingham who got down low to his right to claw the ball into the path of Andy Fleming who could only find the side netting with his follow up.
The Shrimps went close again when a Chris McCready header floated the wrong side of the right hand post but they were undone for a second time on the stroke of half time.
Former Celtic player Paul Caddis teed up Matt Ritchie on the right and his cross was met by Raffaele De Vita at the far post as he made no mistake from six yards out.
Morecambe looked to fight back in the second half with Foderingham again producing a superb save to tip away Phil Jevons’ header.
But the Shrimps’ hopes of a comeback were dashed as the home side added a third on 76 minutes when Ritchie again provided the telling ball to feed substitute Ronan Murray who fired past Roche from 12 yards.
