Morecambe Ladies finally got a taste of action in 2014 but bowed out of the Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy at the semi-final stage.
Preston North End Ladies are two divisions higher than Nick Barrett’s side and ran out 5-0 winners at Lancaster and Morecambe College on Sunday.
A combination of bad weather and fixture confusion meant the Shrimpettes hadn’t played in nearly two months and the ladies were kept on their toes again having been due to play Blackpool up until the Friday before the game.
Despite being the underdogs, Megan Doherty nearly fired the hosts ahead after six minutes but saw a shot come back off the post and rebound to safety.
And Morecambe were behind two minutes later, Laura Walker putting the visitors ahead with a deflected shot.
The sides went back and forth before Preston doubled their lead, Walker collecting the ball and feeding Alison Tabener who raced down the right and crossed a deep ball that found its way into the back of the net leaving Emma Reader with no chance.
North End then hit a post before the half was out as they threatened to run away with things.
After the break Hannah Williamson and Becky Whittingham reminded Preston of Morecambe’s threat but again it was the visitors who increased their lead, Savage finishing off a neat move involving Carrol, Foster and Ball.
Four minutes later it was four with from a corner and Morecambe then gave the ball away cheaply with Carly Bailey crossing for Tabener to make it five.
