After Morecambe Ladies saw their FA Cup clash with Chorley postponed all attentions turned to the A Team’s top of the table clash with Preston North End reserves.
It was a point gained for the top two sides in the Lancashire FA Women’s County League Division One as they played out a 3-3 draw.
Nic Mackemson, Nicola Conway and Gina Pendlebury scored the goals for the Shrimpettes who sit one point clear at the top.
Morecambe took the lead three minutes in as Makemson scored for 20 yards after a poor clearance.
It was two after 11 minutes, after an innocuous throw-in into the area was mis-judged by two defenders and the bouncing ball was met by Conway who turned and volleyed the ball past Eleanor Holden.
Preston reduced the arrears half-way through the half as Heather Crook fired past Natasha Moore on the left-hand edge of the area.
Pendlebury then restored the two-goal lead when she met Nat Williams’ cross unmarked.
In an open, flowing first-half Becky Ruscow kept Preston in touch as she turned and slipped the ball home to make it 3-2 five minutes before the break.
With the breeze behind them, Preston had the better of possession and equalised on 65 minutes, Heather Cross was on hand to score at the back post after Morecambe failed to deal with a ball across the six-yard box.
After an open first period it was a scrappier second half as Morecambe continued to punt the ball forward only for North End to collect and come back at them as it ended honours even.
