Morecambe Reserves produced a superb performance to see of an experienced Port Vale side 4-0 on Wednesday afternoon.
Andy Fleming came through the game after his recent foot injury and Robbie Threlfall looked sharp after his three-match suspension, capping his performance with a fine fourth goal.
Teenager Declan Watson scored twice for Stewart Drummond’s youngsters with captain Joe McGee also on the mark.
Port Vale, who included former Shrimps’ winger Chris Shuker in their side, started the better and enjoyed the greater share of the possession in the opening 15 minutes.
But McGee then gave the Shrimps the lead and they never looked back.
Watson scored twice with Joe Mwasile providing the assists and Threlfall scored a wonder goal to extend the Shrimps’ advantage against a shell-shocked Port Vale.
Boss Drummond said: “It was a great performance from lads who deserve a great deal of credit.
“Port Vale had some very experienced players in their line up but we were on top for long periods of the game and played some great stuff.”
