Morecambe FC’s Community Sports team have been selected as finalists in two categories of the North West Football Awards 2014.

In the Community Initiative of the Year category, Morecambe Community Sports has been chosen for its Gymstars project.

The scheme involves taking a mobile gym into schools to provide children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 with the opportunity to become more physically active and helps introduce a healthy, active lifestyle.

Morecambe Community Sports has also been selected as finalists in the Community Club of the Year category.

This recognises the range of work undertaken within the local community supporting education, health, social inclusion and sports participation.

Janet Preston, from Morecambe Community Sports said: “We are delighted to be shortlisted in two categories.

“To be recognised alongside the best from across the leagues shows the quality of the work that we deliver and how we continue to develop for the benefit of the community.”

The prestigious awards ceremony takes place at The Point at Lancashire County Cricket Club on Tuesday, November 18.
